Matto Zoppi

Sound Artist, Performer

Matto Zoppi is an Italian sound artist and performer based in Berlin. Voice and language are his primary materials: carriers of histories and unexpressed possibilities, often shaped by inherited dynamics of control and exposure. He explores them through performance and poetic writing, grounded in research on the phenomenology of the voice and on orality. Working with recorded voices, texts, field recordings and on-site experiments, he treats microphones, props, costumes and gestures, and the spaces and audiences around them, as dramaturgical instruments.

Current projects include Gewaltmonopol, a solo performance with the voice as its only medium; Transformations, an audio series on vocal practices; and LIMP, a performance research on microphone gesturality and spatial listening. He made a sound score for Breacher at the Julia Stoschek Foundation with Alif Hilal, and the sound design for The (W)HOLE Project (Zürich, 2025). As one half of San Giorgio Cibernetico he released Attraverso un Ricominciare on Ruego (2025); his solo debut Dedalo was produced and broadcast by Fango Radio in 2023. He performs in Tacet by Jacopo Giacomoni, directed by Silvia Costa (Venice Biennale Teatro 2026), and has performed at Silent Green, Radialsystem and OHM in Berlin, among others; his work has been on air at Radiophrenia Glasgow and Cashmere Radio Berlin.
