Noise vs. Noise #8: Finissage
- Date
- Fri 2 Aug 2019
- Venue
- Studio Markof, No 9, Shahroud Alley, Khark St, Enghelab St, Tehran
The closing night, and a crowded one: visitors arrived hours early, and keeping the studio cool became an issue.
Owrang (Ali Mohajer) and Ghodsea (Mohammad Sahebzamani) opened with a heavy, expressive 45-minute duo set on electronic instruments, with videos Milad Shirbisheh had made for the evening. Their repertoire and musical use of electronics carried the audience with them.
XSIX (Farhan Mohajerani) and Erfan Jamshidi followed with an interactive audiovisual performance. Soundcheck ran late with the crowd already seated, and a new projection screen for Erfan Jamshidi's visuals had to be put up, with the help of Arman Moghadam. The performance was as precise as in their rehearsal studio the night before, and audiences from the festival's other venues made it shine: when the power failed for two minutes, they kept applauding until the projector came back.
The last performance of the festival was Frequency of Breathing, a group improvisation by Zhoobin Askarieh with Owrang and Ghodsea, who had rehearsed together for a while: from acoustic instruments and didgeridoo to analog synthesizers and software, a wide landscape of sound.
