Epsilon Delta
Electronic Musician, Composer, Sound Artist · Hong Kong
Epsilon-Delta is a Hong Kong-based electronic musician and composer whose work sits at the intersection of mathematics and sound. Operating under a name drawn from the formal epsilon-delta definition of a limit in calculus, their practice centers on the sonification of mathematical concepts — translating abstract numerical structures into minimal electronic compositions using synthesizers and algorithmic sequencing. Released through 433 Records Hong Kong, their debut concept album 'Music for Recurring Decimals' (2022) is a nine-track work in which each piece is algorithmically composed from a specific cyclic number or recurring decimal (e.g. 1/7 = 0.142857…, 1/3 = 0.333333…). For each track, a strict compositional algorithm was devised: semitone intervals in the sequencer were mapped directly to the digits of the decimal, creating melodies and rhythms that are mathematical inevitabilities rather than aesthetic choices. The follow-up release 'Sonification: Music from Fractal' (2024) extended this approach to fractal geometry, translating fractal patterns into sound structures. Epsilon-Delta releases exclusively on 433 Records, a Hong Kong mini-label whose stated mission is to explore 'how music is defined / redefined / encoded / decoded / deconstructed / reconstructed / experienced / experimented.'
