Nasim Khorassani
Composer · Tehran / San Diego
Nasim Khorassani (b. 1987, Tehran) is an Iranian composer whose chamber, orchestral, and electroacoustic works explore the boundaries of Western and Persian musical traditions. Self-taught from age 8, she studied composition at the University of Tehran before pursuing graduate work at Cleveland State University and doctoral studies at UC San Diego with Katharina Rosenberger and Marcos Balter. Her works received no performances in Iran until after emigrating to the US; since then, she has garnered commissions from prestigious ensembles including No Exit New Music Ensemble, Del Sol String Quartet, Patchwork Duo, Zeitgeist, and Loadbang. Featured on aNoise's Noise à Noise 23: Noise vs. Silence Vol I-IV (2023). Her music navigates cultural hybridity, technical innovation, and the emotional resonance of displacement.
