Eine Kachel antippen, um über das Stück zu lesen, nochmals antippen, um es zu hören.
Confusion and chaos is inevitable. Perhaps it is this urgency for imperfection that allows one to wander, experiment, and discover. As time goes by, one may adjust themselves to the state of lack of clarity and become aware of the silver linings that have long been there.
Kimia Koochakzadeh-Yazdi is a Vancouver-based composer-performer who writes for hybrid instrumental and electronic ensembles and performs electroacoustic music. Kimia explores the unfamiliar familiar while constantly being driven by the mechanism of the human psyche. Being also a cross-disciplinary artist, she has actively collaborated on projects evolving around dance, film, and theatre. Her work has been performed in cities across North America and previewed in papers such as The New York Times, Georgia Straight, MusicWorks Magazine, Vancouver Sun, and Sequenza 21. Kimia has recently graduated from Simon Fraser University and will be starting her DMA in composition at Stanford University in Fall 2021.

This piece was composed for a contemporary dance performance named Not to Be. From the performance’s statement: “Not to Be is about making choices. Do we actually have the choice? Or should we submit ourselves to the available options that other people have prepared for us, and be deceived by the illusion of choice? This piece is about free will.”

Tehran-based label Noise à Noise is celebrating the new solar year 1400 S.H with the release of Noise à Noise 21.1 – a compilation of works from all female composers. The album includes pieces by Kimia Koochakzadeh-Yazdi, Nilufar Habibian, Anahita Abbasi, Mehrnaz Khorrami, Deniz Tafaghodi, Nesa Azadikhah, and Leonie Roessler with Akane Takada. With varying backgrounds and styles, ranging from the classically trained contemporary composer to the deep house techno producer, all tracks deal with the concept of noise in music. While the composers worked independently to create their pieces, the listeners experience a sense of coherence as they move from one work to another, from industrial soundscapes to a solo violin piece, a minimalist computer-generated composition, to the booming sounds of an underground drain accompanied by a grand piano played with percussion mallets, and last but not least the traditional sounds of the ‘Tonbak’ and ‘Tar’ with an electronic twist just as the sound of ‘Qanun’ in the second piece.
The album is compiled by Soheil Soheili; Arman Moghadam coded the visual design, and Owrang from ‘Studio A’ did the post-production.
