DIY Electronics, Pure Data, Hydrophone · Wuppertal
Naomi Xila-Xulis is a media artist and performer based in Wuppertal, where she runs Studio Xila-Xulis. Her work centres on sound installation and explores the relationship between human, machine and space, alongside research into travel and ecology. She builds her own instruments from circuits, microcontrollers, sensors, transducers and hydrophones that sense presence and turn it into sound in real time. At the heart of her practice is liminality, "the moment a sound belongs to no single source." Field recordings in Patagonia first drew her to sound, and her projects have taken her to Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Italy and France.
She is a Meisterschülerin of Danica Dakić at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and received the postgraduate Anschlussperspektiven grant for her graduation project AULA UNTER STROM (2026). Her performance RADAR (2025), built around a custom 24 GHz radar, has been shown at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Art Artist in Düsseldorf and Petersburg Art Space in Berlin. She founded and directs Efluxemble, an ensemble for electronic and acoustic sound performance.
