LIJEL

Multidisciplinary Artist, Voice, Noise

LIJEL is a Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist working between noise, vocal and sound art, performance and body-based research. Her work treats the voice as a physical, pre-linguistic phenomenon, moving across the thresholds of noise, language and embodied expression. In experimental music, vocal improvisation and performance she uses raw textures, found objects and material processes, works intensively with noise and harsh noise, and brings in beats and traces of glitch, hyperpop and breakcore.

She has worked as LIJEL since 2014, collaborating with artists from sound and performance. She studied Fine Arts (Time-Based Media / Acoustic) at HFBK Hamburg with Michaela Melián and Matt Mullican, and is now in the M.A. programme in Time-Based Media at Muthesius University in Kiel, with Andreas Greiner and Annika Larsson. She also follows the theory of sound, voice and perception, and supports animal welfare through her art, among others the organisation SOKO Tierschutz.
