Improvising Duo – Guitars, Trumpet, Objects, Field Recordings, Electronics · IJmuiden / The Hague

Members Hessel Veldman, Leonie Roessler

Hessel Veldman and Leonie Roessler are a Dutch-German duo improvising freely with a wide range of objects, instruments, field recordings and guitars, including trumpet, electronics and a custom Red Raven slide guitar built by Sahil Bahl. In their sets, recorded environments become the frame for instant, real-time improvisation. The duo brings together two generations of experimental practice: the self-made tape culture of the 1980s and today's art-radio and noise scenes.

Hessel Veldman (NL, b. 1956) is a musician, composer and radio and music producer who has spent five decades making deliberately uncomfortable music. From his home studio in IJmuiden he was a central figure in the Dutch cassette underground. He ran the label Exart (1982–1995) and recorded as Y Create, Forbidden Photographs and the improvising group Gorgonzola Legs, alongside sound poetry and radio plays as FNTC. His archival recordings have found a new audience through the Belgian label Stroom, and he has produced experimental radio for Concertzender since 2004.

Leonie Roessler (DE) is a composer, performer and radio maker. She grew up in Germany and the United States, is based in The Hague, and co-founded aNoise. She records her surroundings in field recordings and uses them in radio pieces, sound installations and instrumental compositions.

Coming in 2027: the duo's album ZUILING on aNoise.
