Burnt Sand Learning to Sing – New album by Chi Him Chik & Aquiles Hadjis
Berlin, December 5th, 2025 – aNoise announces the pre‑order, premiere performance, and release of Burnt Sand Learning to Sing, a new album by Chi Him Chik and Aquiles Hadjis. The album will be premiered live on 8 December 2025 at Petersburg Art Space (PAS Berlin), where Chi performs with an improvisation system (Aiii) and hardware setups prepared by Aquiles as part of the Confronting Noises #6 evening.
Burnt Sand Learning to Sing is a musical dialogue between Venezuelan‑born artist Aquiles Hadjis and Hong Kong media artist Chi Him Chik. Hadjis, known for sculptural approaches to improvisation and cross‑media dialogue, meets Chik’s transformative performances shaped by chaos, reflection, and emotion; their exchange tests how instruments, bodies and machines can listen to and reshape one another.
The encounter is supported by the occasional voice of Aiii – an improvisation system developed by Chi to deliver unpredictable phrases in response to its experience of listening and becoming. Rather than a third player, Aiii works here as a volatile extension of the duo’s practice, pushing their sound toward sudden fractures, dense granulation and moments of fragile suspension.
Recorded in Tokyo, Japan during September 2024 and mixed by Aquiles Hadjis, the album preserves the raw dynamics of the sessions. The music has been intentionally left unmastered while kept at comparable loudness to the rest of the label’s catalogue, reflecting aNoise’s preference for immediacy and detail over heavy post‑processing.
The digital pre‑order for Burnt Sand Learning to Sing opens ahead of the premiere performance on 8 December at PAS Berlin, with the release following on aNoise’s Bandcamp and major digital platforms.
