About

What is Anoise?

Anoise (also known as “Noise à Noise”) is an open-community, independent, artist-run record label with roots in Tehran, operating between Iran and Germany. Established in 2019, the label provides a platform for experimental and noise music artists, particularly those connected to the cultural and artistic landscape of these regions. Our mission is to foster meaningful intercultural exchanges and innovative approaches to both theory and art.

The inception of this community began with a series of translation projects on sound theory in early 2019, which organically grew into studies on Tehran’s Soundscapes and archival usage. At its core, Anoise adopts a counterpoint approach, applicable across various mediums and not confined to a specific musical sub-genre. While noise elements often serve as compositional building blocks, our methods are diverse and expansive.

How and Why?

Anoise bridges the gap between academic music and the broader art scene by maintaining strong ties with academia and local live acts. Our focus lies on composition and contemporary notations for music, video, and light, designed for easy interpretation and performance by trained artists, even in the absence of the composer.

Noise music, rich in philosophy and ambiguous in boundaries, is a field ripe for exploration. It requires dedicated research and a commitment to fostering sonic dialogue among creators across various disciplines. Anoise is dedicated to supporting this dialogue and the artists who contribute to it.

We also emphasize the importance of legal ownership and copyright awareness for artists. Anoise ensures that all works are properly copyrighted, backed by essential literature and precise translations of technical terminology.

Our community prioritizes scientific research and creative development, offering workshops and residency programs to foster intercultural connections. We support a broad spectrum of sub-genres, from contemporary and modern classical music to ambient, harsh noise, and sound collage. This includes Iranian artists and researchers, as well as those engaged with Iran’s experimental music scene.

When and Who?

Anoise proudly hosts a collective of sound artists, musicians, and enthusiasts dedicated to advancing experimental music. We simplify administrative processes for these artists, allowing them to focus on their art and careers. Our support often extends into interdisciplinary studies within art and science, reflecting the diverse origins of experimental music.

Our team comprises a small group of individuals and independent collaborators who assist in event planning and execution. Our director board plays a crucial role in decision-making, addressing aesthetic and technical challenges, and steering the label towards its goals.
